We want to thank you for your interest in joining our mission!

The Books4Languages movement relies on Contributors who generate and maintain all content on our educational sites. They are collaborative projects, with people from all over the world bringing their skills and interests to join in the compilation and dissemination of knowledge to everyone, everywhere.

To create an Open Textbook is a hard task. It requires to know about some of the (many) things that go into publishing a textbook: planning, project management, recruiting, writing, editing, peer review, formatting, accessibility review, printing, and marketing. Some of these might happen simultaneously, and not every project will take the same approach to all of them, but there is more to creating an open textbook than just writing the content.

Thie is how Books4Languages helps.

By sharing resources, we can address a historical problem of close textbooks with the one size fill all approach.
By sharing teaching capacity with Books4Languages, we are able to overcome these limitations and are able to offer local pupils access to a specifical textbook.

Collaboration

Do you like to research or write? Did you know that you can contribute content to Books4Languages and its sister sites directly? Each language project has information about contributing in the links on the side, sometimes under a pull-down title like “Interactions”. Many of them have advanced tutorials in English or Spanish. The Editors Guide, for instance.

Contributors contribute new topics and improve current topics. Schools and Academies share their resources and expertise. All of us have knowledge to share. Here’s how to join our global community.

Adaptations

Adaptations refers to the in which the pace of learning and the instructional approach are optimized for the needs of each learner. Learning objectives, instructional approaches, and instructional content (and its sequencing) may all vary based on learner needs. In addition, learning activities are meaningful and relevant to learners, driven by their interests, and often self-initiated.

Adaptations is a volunteer-driven activity on our websites, just like content creation.See our page on adaptation for more specific information.

Translations

Are you fluent in more than one language and willing to translate? Translation is a volunteer-driven activity on our websites, just like content creation. See our page on translation for more specific information.

If you’d like to propose the translation of an existing TextBook to a new language, please visit TextBooks translations.

There is a section there on getting started which includes some important links, and there is also a section on communication that tells you some of the best places to get in touch with other translators, who may be able to give you specifics about the work. We’d recommend reading the tutorial from the “Editors Guide” before beginning, if you choose to pitch in.

Proposals

If you want to propose an entirely new TextBooks, please visit TextBook proposals.

Because choices are also possible between different directions of knowledge and skills according to the specific needs of the learner, we are not able to implement most suggestions directly by email request. Changes to existing TextBooks and new adaptations approval (like new translations for existing texbooks or entirely new texbooks for specifical purposes) come from this community of Contributors.

We hope that the community will be receptive to your idea.

Draws

Do you like Draw illustrations? Design charts?

There is a place for you, too! Media files that you have created which have pedagogical value and which you’re willing to donate can be uploaded to Books4Languages, where they can be used on second language textbooks, as well as elsewhere! See Project scope/Summary for some more information on the kinds of media files that we are looking for.

Are you a programmer or web developer or interested in becoming one?
