Pronouns слова,які вживаються для уникнення повтору іменників. В англійській мові ми розрізняємо займенники залежно від числа (однина,множина) і роду (чоловічий,жіночий,середній).

Relative Pronouns вживаються,щоб ввести відносні положення. Вони відносяться до людей чи речей шляхом заміни суб’єкта вираженого в головному реченні,щоб уникнути його повтору у відносному положенні.

Relative Pronouns вживаються перед іменниками (люди або речі).

1. Which
   1. This is the palace which I visited last year.
   2. It’s the watch which my sister gave me for my birthday.
   3. The sculptures, which they liked, were made in Madrid.
2. That
   1. It was the boy that stole my wallet.
   2. The statue, that my friend made, is beautiful.
   3. They couldn’t find the book that they were looking for.
3. Who
   1. My sister, who is very stylish, wants to be a hairdresser.
   2. His friends, who work at the travel agency, will book our tickets.
   3. This is the woman who helped us with the translations.
4. Whom
   1. I called the salesman from whom I bought this watch.
   2. This is the woman to whom I wanted to speak
   3. The people, for whom they were waiting, have arrived.
5. Whose
   1. Helen, whose father is a baker, lives in an industrial city.
   2. This is the painter whose statue is in the main square of the city.
   3. This is my cousin whose clothes shop has the most expensive clothes.

Relative Pronouns відносяться до людей чи речей, щоб розпізнати їх і додати інформацію про них.Ми вживаємо:

1. Which (відноситься до речі чи ідеї, запитуючи про вибір);
2. That (відноситься до особи і речі/ідеї);
3. Who (відноситься до людей чи коли,ми хочемо знати особу);
4. Whom (запитати ,яка особа вживає заходів);
5. Whose (дізнатися,якій особі щось належить).

Ми вживаємо Relative Pronouns, щоб ввести відносні положення. Вони відносяться до людей чи речей,шляхом заміни суб’єкта вираженого в головному реченні, щоб уникнути його повтору у відносному положенні.

На додаток до трьох Relative Pronouns вивчених в A1, існують ще два: Whom і whose. Ці два займенники відносяться до людей.

Наприклад:
— “He told me that he didn’t have time to study, which I knew wasn’t true.” = Which (речі,тварини,ціле речення).
— “The man that gave us the tickets was wearing a black t-shirt.” = That (особа.річ,тварина) може замінитиcan who або which, коли відносне речення не визначене.
— “I am dating the girl whom I met at the bar.” = Whom (особа - коли немає суб’єкта).
