Apostrophe

The apostrophe is a punctuation and diacritical mark.

Here you can see the symbol used to indicate an apostrophe: ‘

1. Contractions:
   • It‘s (it is) a nice day outside.
   • You aren‘t (are not) supposed to be here.
   • Who‘s (is) at the door?
2. The saxon genitive
   • The children‘s room is dirty.
   • A car‘s engine has to be checked often.
   • Mariana‘s book was very interesting.

We use apostrophe with:

1. contractions
2. the saxon genitive
