Possessive

The Possessive Case is used to talk about things that belong to a person or animal. We can even use it to show that one thing belongs to another thing. {see Possessive Case, A1 Level}

We can even use it with time phrases to express that something is connected to a certain period of time.

This kind of time phrase has this structure:
Time expression + ‘s (genitive or possessive case).

  • Today’s newspaper
  • A day‘s work
  • A week‘s trip
  • In a month‘s time
  • Five years’ progress
  • An hour’s work

We use (‘s) after words that indicate time to show the belonging of an action to a specific period of time.

We can use the Possessive with time phrases to something belongs to a certain period of time.

The structure of the Time Phrases is:
Time expression + ‘s (genitive or possessive case) (e.g. Six years’ experience).

For example:
Six years’ experience” = When possessive () combined with time phrase (six years) this indicates that “experience” belongs to specific period of time.
