24 Numbers - Decimals
Numbers
Decimal system let us write the numbers that are not whole. We need to read Decimal Numbers one by one to prevent confusion.
Decimal Numbers are composed by two parts. The first part before the full stop is the whole number; the second part after the full stop is a tenth.
The Decimal Numbers have to be read one by one. Below is the pronunciation:
| WRITTEN | SPOKEN |
| 0.5 | zero (or nought) point five |
| 0.25 | zero (or nought) point two five |
| 0.396 | zero (or nought) point three nine six |
| 2.65 | two point six five |
| 73.2 | seventy-three point two |
- This book is five point ten. (€ 5.10)
- Your balance is ten point six five. (10.65)
- His height is one point seven two. (1.72 m)
Reading the numbers as a whole when we have a Decimal system may create some problems (e.g. point one may be 0.1 or 0.01). To prevent this, we read the numbers one by one.
Decimal Numbers are composed of two parts: the first part, before the full stop, is a whole number and after the full stop, is a tenth.
We have to read Decimal Numbers one by one.
For example:
— “4.98” = four point nine eight” - four point ninty eight.
