Uppercase letters

Introduction

Uppercase letters are used in diverse contexts. Most of the times under the capitalisation process, which is the action of writing the first letter of a word in capital letters and the remaining part in lowercase letters.

  • Days of the week:
    • Monday; Tuesday; Wednesday; Thursday; Friday; Saturday; Sunday.
  • Months:
    • January; February; March; April; May; June; July; August; September; October; November; December.
  • Names of brands:
    • Pepsi Cola;
    • Microsoft Corporation;
    • Coca-Cola
  • Names of monuments:
    • the Eiffel Tower;
    • the White Tower;
    • the London Eye.
  • Names of works of art
    • the Last Supper
    • the Mona Lisa
    • Guernica
  • With whole words when we want to draw attention to them

  • Inner divisions in manuscripts

Use

We capitalise the words when writing :

  • The days of the week;
  • The months of the year;
  • Names of trade-marks or brands;
  • Names of monuments;
  • Names of works of art.
  • with whole words when we want to draw attention to them
  • Inner divisions in manuscripts and printed texts, that is, the sub-titles of large texts are in uppercase letters completely.
