Dot: Full stop
Introduction
The dot mark has got three names (a dot, a full stop, a point) and several usages according to each subtype.

Example
- in the same paragraph:
- You might not understand the difference between personality and character. We are going to explain it in this chapter.
- separate different paragraphs:
- I enjoy our school life, so I am happy to go there every day.
I disagree because I do not have fun at school.
- I enjoy our school life, so I am happy to go there every day.
- to finish the text:
- ...and they lived happily ever after.
- in conversations
- I won’t do it, full stop.
Use
Generally, we use a full stop to indicate the end of a sentence when it is not a question or an exclamation. More specifically, the full stop is used:
- inside a paragraph: when the topic of the sentences is the same but the ideas have different connotations.
- to separate two paragraphs when the content has different topics
- to finish the text completely: nothing is written after the full stop.
In a different context, the term “full stop” is used in conversations when you don’t want to speak anymore about an issue. It is a way of finishing the conversation.
