Prepositions
Le preposizioni sono brevi parole relative ad altri elementi della frase. Sono essenziali perchè forniscono ulteriori dettagli sulla frase posizionando evento, persone, ed oggetti in tempo e luogo.
Per posizionare un evento nella sua posizione física usiamo le seguenti preposizioni di luogo:

- The mountain boots are under the bed.
- The coat is next to the backpack.
- She hung a picture above the fireplace.
- Two people are standing behind George.
- The pilot stands between those two air hostesses.
- They hung a clock over the sofa.
- The bakery is opposite my father’s restaurant.
- The sun disappeared below the horizon.
- My car is parked in front of your house.
- She found a coin near the fountain.
Le preposizioni di luogo vengono usate per parlare della posizione di cose in termini di locazione.
- under (in a lower position);
- next to (very close to someone or something, with nothing in between);
- above (at a higher level);
- behind (at the back of);
- between (in the space that separates two places, people or objects);
- over (at a higher level);
- opposite (being in a position on the other side);
- below (at a lower level);
- in front of (in direct view of);
- near (at a short distance away).
Le preposizioni sono importante, dato che sono brevi parole relative ad un altro elemento nella frase. Quando vogliamo posizionare un evento nel suo luogo físico, usiamo le preposizioni di luogo.
Le preposizioni di luogo più comuni sono: under, next to, behind, in front of, between, above, below, over, opposite e near.
Per esempio:
— “Valencia is near Alicante.” = Indica la posizione física del posto.
— “My book is between the table and the closet.” = Indica la posizione física dell’oggetto.
