27 Adverbs - Adverbial Subordinate Clause
Adverbs are expressions that function as modifiers of other elements in the clause. They can provide a wide range of information. {see Adverbs - Frequency, A1 Level}
Adverb clauses are words that act like an Adverb.
Clauses can be dependent or independent. Adverb Clauses can be adjusted by mentioning the time, place, purpose, and cause of an action.
Adverb Clause can be divided by a comma (,) from other sentences.
The structure is as follows:
- Adverb clause + comma (,) + main clause;
- Main clause + comma (,) + adverb clause.
- Wherever there is a clinic, there will be doctors as well.
- Wherever I go, I get a minor injury.
- He underwent surgery in order to stay healthy.
- If you hurry, you will twist your ankle.
Adverb Clauses can be adjusted by mentioning:
- Time: After, when, until, soon, before, once, while, as soon as, whenever, by the time;
- Place: Here, there, wherever;
- Purpose: In order to, therefore, as a result, thus, consequently, hence;
- Cause of an action: Because, if, since, as, as much as.
