3 Past Perfect
The Past Perfect is a tense used to talk about actions or events that took place earlier than other past actions, to clarify the idea that something had already happened at the time in the past we are talking about. {see Past Perfect, B1 Level}
- I had tried to save time by going early but I couldn’t due to traffic.
- She had made effort to reach her goal but her friend was better than her.

We can also use Past Perfect Tense to talk about acts that we wanted to do in past but we could not.
The Past Perfect Tense is used to talk about an action completed at some point in the past before something else happened. It is used to make it clear that one event happened before another in the past. We can also use Past Perfect Tense to talk about things we wanted to do but we could not.
For example:
— “My mom had intended to throw a pool party but it started raining.” = My mom wanted to throw a pool party but she couldn’t because of the weather.
