41 Consecutive Clause
Sometimes we link two clauses to make them one clause. It is called Consecutive Clause.
We can link two sentences into one sentence with “therefore”, “as a result”, “otherwise” etc.
The structure is as follows:
- Clause 1 + consecutive clause + clause 2;
- Consecutive clause + clause 1 + clause 2.
- He always wants to have a PhD. as a result he wants to go to Europe for that.
- Mid-term exam was so hard therefore nearly everyone in the class got bad marks.
- They have to write a thesis otherwise they won’t get their diplomas.
Consecutive Clauses are used in order not to interrupt the sentence. It is mostly used by writers for creating fluency. In Consecutive Clauses, one clause follows the other with a chronological sequence.
- As a result: Because of something;
- Therefore: For that reason;
- Otherwise: It is used after a proposal or an advice to demonstrate what the results will be if you do not follow the propose or advice.
