65 Pronouns - Possessive Pronoun + Gerund
The Gerund (-ing form of verbs) acts as a noun. When a noun or pronoun comes before Gerund, they need to let gerund to modify other nouns with Possessive Pronouns. {see Adjectives/Pronouns – Possessive, A1}
The structure of the Possessive Pronouns and Gerunds in a sentence is as follows:
Possessive Pronoun (My, Your, Him, Her, Its, Our, Your, Their) + Gerund.
- All people heard about their murdering at the back street.
- Terrorist group’s attacking to bank was a huge shock for us. (their attacking)
- Immigrants’ coming to the country is making some people angry. (their coming)
- Lower class’ being poor was not a problem for upper class. (their being)
When we use a pronoun before a Gerund, pronoun should be possessive. Possessive Pronouns are used to modify Gerunds which act as nouns.
