71 Would for Past Habits

We use Would to talk about our repeated actions in the past, in other words, our past habits.

Remember that would + infinitive without to is only for past actions that don’t happen now.

Affirmative form

The Affirmative form has this structure:
Subject + would + infinitive verb + complement.

Negative form

The Negative form has this structure:
Subject + wouldn’t/would not + infinitive verb + complement.

Interrogative form

The Interrogative form has this structure:
Would + subject + infinitive verb + complement + (?).

  • My interns would work hard.
  • My interns wouldn’t work hard.
  • Would my interns work hard?

When we talk about things that happened in the past but don’t happen anymore, we can use would + infinitive.
